Spreading Ink prints an 8 color all over print!

Spreading Ink was recently approached by Stiletto Entertainment of Inglewood, CA. to do an 8 color all over screen print. The artwork for the project was inspired by album art created for artist, singer/song writer, Barry Manilow.

This was an exciting opportunity for us! We have felt for some time that we could do an 8 color print and hold registration - but our experience has shown that not all over artwork is created equal and we would need the right art to do 8 colors and make it work in a production run. When asked to evaluate the Manilow art provided by Stiletto Entertainment, it looked like a perfect candidate for us to test our skills!

All over screen prints with 3-4 colors have become fairly routine for us; and we looked forward to the opportunity to challenge our skills developed over the past three years of doing these specialty prints. We have always possessed the capability to do an 8 color all over print; however, we have not always had the skill to print 8 colors in register on a belt print (shirt on a platen not over it). Our previous shop record was held by an all over print that had 6 colors and with a foil accent within the design. Our experience with that design gave us a great deal of confidence that we could successfully do an 8 color print with the right artwork.

The colors in the art led us to recommend a Cygnus shirt for the job as their 'scarlet' color was a perfect match for the dominant color used throughout the art. The print may look as if it isn't registered due to the style of the art, but the print is actually butt - registered and the 8 colors in the print are 'knocked out' from each other with no over print in the discharge inks.

Color separations for the job were provided by Spreading Ink and the original art file was provided in Photoshop high resolution format and was applied to our Cygnus template to insure proper print size. The production run was a little over 250 shirts and the entire 8 color job printed with only 2 misprints!

Spreading Ink has had the pleasure of doing all over prints for various bands including: Killswitch Engage, Alice Cooper, All Shall Perish, Lights Out, Anberlin, The Damned, and Hysterical Society. All over printing often gives that 'edgy' look that bands are looking for when looking to produce tour and promotional merchandise and we love helping them get what they are looking for!
